Purpose and goal

The purpose of a traffic forecasting tool is to provide complementary support to dispatchers when they are making decisions as an accident has occurred in order to minimize the negative impact on traffic and also to improve information to travellers. There was two main objectives for the project: *To procure a traffic forecasting tool for Trafik Stockholm *That the method developed / procured also would be relevant for the same purpose in other cities such as Gothenburg and Malmö. The goal was not met when the project was canceled just before the start of the procurement.

Results and expected effects

The scope was to get an implemented traffic forecasting tool at Trafik Stockholm. Currently there is no information available about the impact on traffic flow or travelling times upon an accident. A traffic forecasting tool would provide this information to dispatchers and significantly improve the quality on corrective actions, since they would be able to see the impact on maneuverability in traffic for each corrective action before they are executed. This would also result in improved quality on traffic information. There is no outcome of this project since it was cancelled.

Approach and implementation

The project started in January 2014 with a planning project aiming to support the choice of contract form. In 2014 a number of reports were made for example cost-benefit valuation. Discussions about project coordination, ownership and costs were also conducted. In 2015 some resources and competence was allocated to the project and internal contacts with closely related projects were established to enable synergy benefits for all involved. In the fall 2015 all documents needed to start the procurement was completed.
