Purpose and goal

The project has developed a general simulation and optimization framework that can be used for the concept development of various products. The framework facilitates the reuse of legacy system simulation models and enables capitalizing on previous investments in modeling and simulation assets, which reduces the workload due to changes. The framework provides a platform for knowledge dissemination and creating a common understanding of the project goals early in the product development stages The generality and flexibility of the framework makes it applicable to other industries

Expected results and effects

The collaboration and interdisciplinary network between industry and academia was ensured through the employment of an industrial PhD student with supervision from both industry and academia. The application case stems from aeronautics, with collaborating parties from different technological domains, which contributed to knowledge dissemination and assimilation. The results are general enough to be applicable in other industrial or academic use cases as well.

Planned approach and implementation

The project resulted in three international conference papers and a Licentiate thesis, with a proof-of-concept simulation and optimization framework as a main implementation result and the insights gained while building the framework as a general result. The work has been performed in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, with researchers and engineers from both Aeronautical Engineering and Vehicle Systems at Saab and from the Product Realisation and the Fluid Mand Mechatronic Systems departments at Linköping University.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
