Important results from the project
The project would help to develop knowledge-based production in Sweden of advanced products with high customer value. Transmissions are a key component of heavyvehicles and a strong base is in Swedish production. The project aimed to introduce new production technologies and new materials in production. The project has resulted in new knowledge about gear rolling, machining of clean steel for gears, and distorsions from hardening of gears.
Expected long term effects
Gears of size typical for truck transmissions can not yet be manufactured by gear rolling with sufficient accuracy. It is recommended to investigate the introduction of ultra-clean steel from tube products directly in gears. The change would allow a saving in lead time from the steel mill to the manufactured gear. Hardenability dependent geometric compensation in soft machining seems possible to reduce the detrimental effects of distortion.
Approach and implementation
The project has been implemented according to plan with any set milestones achieved.
