Reference number
Coordinator SenseAir AB - SenseAir AB, Delsbo
Funding from Vinnova SEK 20 293 629
Project duration May 2015 - August 2017
Status Completed
Venture Challengedriven innovation - Phase 3 Implementation

Purpose and goal

The purpose and goal of the project was to reduce the number of deaths in traffic globally due to alcohol abuse, by user-friendly, easy, safe and cost-effective testing of the sobriety of drivers. The project also sought to maintain and facilitate a sustainable production environment of alcohol sensors in Sweden by minimizing outsourcing and creating more jobs.

Expected results and effects

The participating companies in the project have together made several improvements to the alcohol sensor and developed a system for cost-effective low volume production of alcohol sensors incl. system for calibration of ethanol, testing and traceability. The project has also developed a commercial workplace screening system (SESAME-connect), developed a Supply chain tool for quality, delivery and cost, and transferred a wire bonding technology-based manufacturing approach from a proof-of-concept stage to an industrially viable process using an automated wire bonding tool.

Planned approach and implementation

The project consisted of 6 partners from industry (Senseair, Autoliv, Hök Instrument, Syntronic, Lexi and Håja) and three from the academy (KTH-iip, KTH-mst and MDH), and the project was divided into 10 WP depending on the partners´ expertise and field of work. All project partners then participated with their knowledge and worked together in different constellations to achieve the project results. Regular meetings were held where the project was synchronized and risks managed. The project also became a strong knowledge-enhancing project for all participating partners.
