Project duration March 2012 - September 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The goal with the project was to develop a new, stronger gypsum grade paper. The purpose was to enable a reduction of raw material in the paperboard with maintained strength properties in order to achieve both economic and environmental benefits. The goal has been achieved in lab and pilot tests. The project has not however entered into full scale trials as the parties agreed on trying to achieve even better results on pilot scale before taking the step to full scale production.

Results and expected effects

The project has resulted in a new strength technology for paperboard based on OrganoClick´s technology for modification of biofibers. The result of the achieved increase in strength of the paperboard has been a paperboard with reduced amount of raw material (pulp) but with maintained strength. The technology has been evaluated on lab and pilot scale with good results but has not yet reached full production scale.

Approach and implementation

Project partners has been the material technology company OrganoClick, the plasterboard producer Siniat and Mid-Sweden University. Competence regarding chemistry, material technology and production was therefore represented in the project as well as partners from the whole value chain. The collaboration between the parties has been tight with regular meetings. All parties were also represented at all bigger tests. Sharing of knowledge has taken place between the parties which has resulted in a successful work even though the project has not yet reached its final goal.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
