Purpose and goal

The project aims to provide support to startups that have adopted the ESA BIC Sweden to develop innovations that are based on or utilize space technology for solutions outside the space sector and / or add new solutions that can be used in space. The support is an incentive that can be used for product development and IPR and are part of the monetary support provided through the ESA BIC Sweden. On average, eight startups per year to be offered a place and adopted by the ESA BIC Sweden and they will get an incentive of up to 50,000 EUR to develop their startups, half from the ESA and half from Vinnova.

Expected results and effects

The project is expected to provide ´rymdstartups´ the opportunity to develop their solutions and strengthen their ability to provide innovative solutions and build attractive and profitable company that will strengthen Sweden´s position as a technology startup nation with dynamic startups and innovative business sector. On average, 8 companies to be included in each year and a maximum contribution of 50,000EUR. A total of 40 companies will be offered this opportunity by 2020. This project is co-financing these incentives in the first stage including 2019.

Planned approach and implementation

It is open to apply to the ESA BIC Sweden (Permanent Open Call) and every year it is scheduled that 3 competitions will take place. On average, 8 startups may be offered a place every year. The schedule for each startup may vary, but the maximum time for implementation for a single startup is maximum 2 years. The first installment of 20 000 EUR is due upon contract signing with the individual starting lineup, the other 20 000 EUR takes place at the mid-term evaluation (midterm review), and the last 10 000 EUR will be payed after approved final report and justified costs.
