Purpose and goal

The aim with this project has been to develop a new product that solves the earlier unsolved problem with strain injuries due to heavy lifts caused to baggage handlers working with loading and unloading airplanes on the ramp. The new lifting aid that has been developed in cooperation between Vaculex AB and Cologne/Bonn Airport makes it possible to achieve a very much improved working environment for the baggage handlers working on the ramp.

Results and expected effects

The new product reduces the amount of manual lifts of baggage with 95 % and contributes due to that to a heavily improved working environment for the baggage handlers working on the ramp. In addition to fulfilling the ergonomic aspects the product also fulfills all the regulatory requirements for ground equipment at airports and also the requests for easy and cost efficient maintenance.

Approach and implementation

The product has been developed in close cooperation between Vaculex AB and Cologne/Bonn Airport with the aim to except from satisfying the ergonomic requests regarding heavy lifts also satisfy the unique set of requirements that is mandatory for ground equipment at airports. The cooperation has been very rewarding and given Vaculex AB a unique understanding for the requests and requirements that an airport has on a product of this kind.
