Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project has been to test, evaluate and further develop previous, developed by us, methods in a new context to ensure that it works for different contexts for future upscaling. The goal is to develop a well-functioning work model with tools that ensure an inclusive process and provide support in creating inclusive environments. Using the method, we can identify which norms that apply at the current site and how these can be challenged in order to create more inclusive sites.

Expected results and effects

An increased understanding is given of how norms can constitute an obstacle for individuals and groups in using places, with a special focus on places for physical activity. Ultimately, it´s about making more people feel comfortable being active in public places and schoolyards. With simple means and in close collaboration with young people, Equalizer helps to transform places for increased mobility for more people. This is a way of working that we hope will spread.

Planned approach and implementation

Together with school students, we have investigated hindering norms for being physically active on schoolyards. Through norm disorders (place-bound norms are examined and challenged by occupying places by those who are usually not there or in ways they do not usually), four aspects have been identified - place, time/weather, other people and performance. Through idea development in workshop form with the students, we have transformed obstacles into solutions. Full-scale tests with prototypes with the aim of promoting inclusion and physical activity are now being carried out.
