Electrical characteristics of wafer scale epitaxial graphene towards industrial use in sensors

Reference number
Coordinator Graphensic AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 795 000
Project duration November 2014 - December 2015
Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation program SIO Grafen

Purpose and goal

The project partners have collaborated in the project to transfer knowledge from academic research and research institutes to industry. Material on wafer scale has been manufactured. Contacts have been developed and verified through several characterization methods. Measuring apparatus for surface resistance have been developed, and an investigation of a contactless measuring method.

Results and expected effects

Cooperation has been established between the project partners in such a way that further development is proposed where the objective is a commercial graphene-based biosensor. New application is now being written for SIO-graphene´s call and possibly also H2020. The exchange of knowledge has led to that the material has matured enough for industrial production, since the process now is verified through several characterization methods. There now also is competence among the project partners to process and deposit good contacts.

Approach and implementation

Graphensic has been able to optimize the production process and are now aiming to develop applications for the material through the project. Linköping University has examined benzene sensitivity that surpass state-of-the-art. Acreo Swedish ICT has developed process know-how for graphene on silicon carbide and published a paper on a graphene-based biosensor. Lindmark Innovation has developed capabilities for contacting the graphene and a measurement method.
