Efficient Reaction using Solid Phase Chemisty in Limited Volumes

Reference number
Coordinator NORDIC CHEMQUEST AKTIEBOLAG
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 102 000
Project duration June 2015 - February 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to develop prototypes based on our patented technology for rotating bed reactors currently used in the pharmaceutical industry. A new type of products using solid reagents in chemical synthesis but also for biotechnological applications such as protein purification, antibody production and testing of environmental substances. The idea of the product was that they would be disposable and generic for different applications.

Expected results and effects

Today there are working prototypes, developed in the project, which can be used with small volumes (10-20 ml) of liquid. This compared to previous products which had a limit of 150 mL. With these products the company is expected to take market shares in new business areas. These new products are expected to create a repetitive revenue stream for the company when the products are disposable. The products are well suited for a variety of applications and the global market is estimated to be very large.

Planned approach and implementation

Project plan work packages were well planned and proved to have the right content with simulations, market research, prototyping, manufacturing technology development to identify potential technologies for the production of products as well as application development for selected areas. Somewhat difficult to judge time estimation however, since some work package took longer time and demanded more resources than expected. Kind of typical of development that requires an iterative development methodology, new problems and opportunities are constantly emerging.
