Important results from the project
The final project goal; To develop a validated and industrial code for particle flow calculations has not been full achieved. The coding was much more complex than anticipated and it has demanded a much larger contribution from the supervisors than planned. It was also found out that the rheological basis of the project was not as secure. This has done that the project has partly been re planned and much more time and effort have been put on rheology. This was though very fruitful as this led the project to develop a new methodology to analyse rheology measurements by using CFD
Expected long term effects
The direct useful result from the project that is expected to have immediately effect for the partners is the new CFD based method for rheology measurement that the project has developed. A more indirect result of the project is the increased rheological understanding in many of the partner´s wider organisations. Further will some of the partners continue the development of the particle code.
Approach and implementation
The plan to run validation experiments at all the industrial partners was not so wise. The project decided to change the plan and run all validations experiments at Tetra Pak´s lab instead. This made it possible to run the experiments more efficient and allowed us to make more experiments and with higher quality and still keep the project´s budget. That the coding took longer time than expected was partly due to that it was more complex than expected, and partly because the task was hard for the student and to make progress very large contributions was needed form the supervisors.
