Important results from the project

The Corona crisis led to an increase in unemployment, from 4% to 9% in 2020-21. Above all, foreign-born people have been affected, as industries such as hotels, restaurants, transport and more have been hit hardest. To counteract long-term unemployment, these groups need further training to new professions. Today´s platforms, however, do not offer language support, which is crucial for understanding the course content. The goal of the project is to develop an educational product that provides support for the groups´ competence development.

Expected long term effects

The project results is a education product with world-unique innovations for language support that takes into account the needs of foreign-born, while the product streamlines work and makes it easier for educational institutes and teachers to support an increased number of foreign-born students. The effect is that these groups can understand the texts in digital courses as language support in the largest immigrant languages is offered automatically in the product. They can then learn new knowledge needed in the labor market so that they do not end up in long-term unemployment.

Approach and implementation

An integral part of the solution has been to form a cooperation of various relevant educational actors in the form of need owners from educational institutes and civil society. Users from the target group have participated and designed this effort and thus set the direction for the rest of society. The development has been done in close collaboration with users from the target groups. Courses in the educational product can be translated into the largest immigrant languages so that everyone understands the content. The product offers accessibility support so everyone can use it.
