Purpose and goal

The project aimed to boost Swedish companies´ capabilities for sustainable innovation in their product realization, ecodesign, and thus their competitiveness. The goal was to develop and test the Ecoleap method in small scale. Methods and experiences from the preparatory study and previous projects on ecodesign, innovation, increased ability to change, as well as research on how attitudes and knowledge affect people´s behaviour have been adapted and combined into a first version of a flexible, strategic, long-term methodology which can be adjusted to different companies´ needs

Results and expected effects

A first version of the method was tested over a short period of time, and only in two companies. Still some positive results were detected; The Eco-leap project has increased the participants´ insight, knowledge and engagement in environmental issues. Commitment and understanding of ecodesign has increased in the organisations, including management. This is valuable and useful in discussion with customers and will give market advantages according to the companies. Methodologies has been developed, and shown useful, even if there are still potentials for improvement

Approach and implementation

In order to develop the Ecoleap method some main activities have been carried out; Development of a new method by combining existing methodologies and tools from the identified competences. Test and further develop the new method in two case studies. Evaluate and further develop the method, a.o. through a workshop where participants from the two companies, involved experts and a reference group contributed to the findings. Analysis result: A promising methodology that needs further development and longer time in each company, at least a period of 18-24 months, to give full impact.
