Reference number
Coordinator SPACEMETRIC AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 182 037
Project duration March 2019 - March 2021
Status Completed
Venture International Joint Calls

Purpose and goal

The concepts below were intended to be developed and combined into one product: - Adaptive streaming video compression to match varying bandwidth - directory synchronization between platform and ground segment to get a real-time view of what data is available - on-demand transmission of image products utilizing varying bandwidth using standard satellite communication products. The product that the project would provide was intended to increase the efficiency of airborne platforms and is marketed in the UK, Sweden and other EU countries.

Expected results and effects

The work had barely started before it was stopped. However, the work resulted in: - SM´s Swedish developers increasing earlier knowledge from SM´s previous work in the subject area (this earlier work was partly done in The Netherlands) - SM increasing its insight into how Vinnova´s UK partners and companies work - several foreign companies showing great interest in SM´s work in the subject area. Contacts are ongoing e.g. with a UK company about the possibility of submitting a joint application, in the style of GtP, to the next call for applications around the end of 2019.

Planned approach and implementation

The project design is assessed excellent - that it could not be implemented was due onlto Spacemetric’s (SM) UK partner having to withdraw from the project. SM considers that if the project would have been completed, it would have produced very good results. SM understands that the technical niche that the project intended to fill is not yet filled by others. SM therefore looks with great interest at invitations from various companies on collaborative projects similar to GtP, especially from a British company wanting to apply jointly for the next round of applications at the end of 2019.
