Purpose and goal

The purpose of the "Critical Infrastructure Security (CRITISEC)" project is to increase the cybersecurity when using so called "edge networks" in critical infrastructure. These are networks that are on the edge of a classical control system for critical infrastructure, for example a sensor network that feeds back data into a SCADA system. Our goal is to work on both network security and and security management of edge units and connected back-end systems, and even to produce best-practice recommendations for organisation that operate "edge networks".

Expected results and effects

We expect to create solutions for improving the secure use of "edge networks", by providing recommendations, standards and prototypes of security solutions. These will increase the security for operating critical infrastructure in general, since "edge networks" are more and more becoming an inevitable part of daily operations. We will produce product prototypes and new operating procedures, as well as open source implementations of relevant standards. The results will increase the reliability of critical infrastructure by reducing the risk av cyberattacks.

Planned approach and implementation

Initially we will identify the use cases with the help of the project partners and the industry reference group. Based on these we will perform a risk analysis to determine the problems with the largest impact on operations. We will then produce solution elements in the different workpackages, which we will finally compose together in prototypes and test-beds to show how they are intended to work together. In parallel we will work on standardisation in order to increase the impact of our proposals.
