Purpose and goal
The project involves close collaboration between the Antenna Systems Group at Chalmers University of Technology and Ranplan Wireless Network Design Ltd of UK, a UK based company. In this project, we will define building wireless performance metrics and derive formulas to calculate these metrics. The above will be verified through simulation and measurements. A software tool will be developed that can be used to design buildings with tailored wireless performance. Results will be disseminated and promoted to be included in standards of building design processes.
Expected results and effects
Results will include mathematical models, software, patent application(s), and publications. New algorithms and software tools will be developed that can be used by building architects and designers to design buildings with tailored wireless performance, to optimise and evaluate wireless performance of buildings. The expected effect is renewed competence and new business opportunities in the Gothenburg region. Ranplan and Chalmers will license their IPRs in the project to the building design/consulting firms and research institutes/universities.
Planned approach and implementation
The project builds upon Ranplan’s software technology for planning and optimisation of in-building radio access network. Ranplan’s tools have been selected by some of the largest telecom equipment manufacturers and mobile operators in the world and are being used by several universities. As a result of this project and in collaboration with Chalmers, their technology will be further developed to a new product. This project´s focus is on algorithms and software.
