Purpose and goal
The primary project goal has been to keep and develop important competence within drug discovery and development in Sweden in collaboration with Swedish universities as well as with the pharmaceutical industry. This has been accomplished by setting up a national Research school in Drug Discovery and Development. The project has also aimed to create clearer entry points for lifescience industry into academia, by performing a target group analysis among SMEs with the aim to optimize the value proposition from the Innovation Offices, and an analysis of global industry/academia deals. The project has resulted in increased collaboration between the participating universites regarding utilization of research results, and regarding doctoral education promoting development of Swedish Life Science industry. The industry (especially SMEs) will be closer connected to academia, and the project has contributed strongly to the strategy for innovation and industry collaboration at KI. The effects of the research school are expected to be long-term, by increased collaboration between industry and academia, by new businesses and by new jobs. In order to reach the goals, the following main sub-projects were planned and implemented: 1) A national research school in Drug Discovery and Development, with emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship 2) A target group analysis among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to investigate how the innovation offices can improve their values propositions to increase industry/academia collaboration. 3) Analysis of global collaboration deals to create a benchmarking material as support in the deal-making process for universities and researchers.
