Call Drones of the future - Drones for citizens and community

Purpose and goal

The project aimed to generate the data needed to realize the vision of the intelligent forest with unique information about each individual tree. This has been achieved by developing a system for collecting data with drones flying inside the forest under the tree canopy. The purpose was to be able to deliver forestry important visual data and hence analyzed forest data, which can easily be accommodated in the current computer and business systems. The goal was to have a working and demonstrative prototype for video recording of entire forest stock with a drone at the end of the Project.

Expected results and effects

The project has mainly followed schedule and budget. All objectives have been met both in terms of technical development, dissemination of information / demonstration, initiation of subsequent projects and the realization of commercial products and services.

Planned approach and implementation

General requirements for the prototype have been identified together with the needs owners. The system has been designed, implemented and validated in collaboration with LTH and Linnaeus University. Demonstrations have been carried out in the field for Vinnova and for needs owners. Parts of the system have been commercialized with the hope of being able to improve and optimize Swedish and global forestry, both in terms of increased production and quality as well as more sustainable forestry.
