Purpose and goal

Doctor Professor develops an app that helps student learn how to read and write in a more efficient and fun way. The purpose of this project was to accelerate the process from prototype to market introduction by decreasing economic and technical risk for external funding. We identified four main goals to achieve this purpose: recruit English speaking user testers, produce an iPad with innovative and relevant functionalities, conduct user tests and finally perform market research. The project fulfilled to a great extent its purpose and goals.

Expected results and effects

Together with end customers and researchers, the project developed and user tested and advanced beta-prototype. The test results confirmed that the prototype produces the anticipated learning outcomes and that they meet the market´s demand for significantly more efficient language training than what is possible with today´s learning methods. The next step for this project is to conduct a complementary user test and raise private funding to commercialize the app.

Planned approach and implementation

The project plan had four main sprints that we performed without any major modifications apart from pushing the project´s overall deadline. This expanded time frame enabled us and our project partners to deliver with higher quality and on budget target. The end of the production (Work Package 3) and the beginning of the user tests (Work Package 4) overlapped which resulted in an unnecessary work intensive period and a delayed start for the user testing. In future projects we will make sure to finalize the app production before starting user testing.
