Digitalisation of complete production flow - an enabler for additive manufactoring

Reference number
Coordinator Swerea SWECAST AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 4 000 000
Project duration April 2016 - March 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to map, show and to some extent point the way forward when it comes to digitizing additive manufacturing in modern production environments. We believe we have done exactly that through a demonstration day with approximately 110 participants from industry and academia where we showed the current state. On this day we also presented the roadmap we see Sweden need to take to get a fully digitized AM production in the future.

Expected results and effects

We see the effects of the work in the project in the future work. In order to understand on what path we shall go forward, it is important to understand where we stand. We have pointed out that there is no easy way to go from design to finished component with AM technology today. Information and data management is at a very basic level. There is also a lack of knowledgeable staff and we have only begun the journey regarding the possibilities that the manufacturing technology AM enables.

Planned approach and implementation

The overall topic of the project together with actors who have widely different backgrounds created a buzzling knowledge pool. Sometimes we did not understand each other, but in return each of us learned a lot during the course of work. At the end of the project we had a consensus and understanding of each other´s approaches. With the relatively large effort in the short period of the project, it was very beneficial to have a demonstrator as a goal to gather around. That gave us a natural target as a group and unified the project.
