Digital high voltage diagnostics

Reference number
Coordinator CHALMERS TEKNISKA HÖGSKOLA AKTIEBOLAG - Division of electric power engineering
Funding from Vinnova SEK 277 500
Project duration May 2018 - March 2020
Status Completed
Venture Personal mobility between societal sectors
Call 2017-04722-en

Purpose and goal

To exchange and develop the technique knowledge within the area of digital high voltage diagnostics between the power industry development and university researches. The more detailed sub-objectives of the project are listed as follows: Develop a measurement system for monitoring and identifying high voltage capacitor end-of-life. To gain knowledges and develop educational materials in digital substation and high voltage equipment monitoring and diagnostics techniques. Exchange experiences related to pulse electroacoustic measurement technique.

Expected results and effects

The project resulting more common research collaborations between ABB power grid and Chalmers on subjects that are beneficial for both power industry and university education. This collaboration also extended to the Swedish power industry as two continuation R&D projects, “digital high voltage diagnostics and power cable review”, supported by Swedish power industry, Energiforsk, for ABB and Chalmers to research and develop educational materials for power engineers.

Planned approach and implementation

With some well received results from the mobility project and with two continuation research projects established and supported by the power industry, the R&D on digital high voltage diagnostics will be continued via different kinds of projects for both industry applications and university education. In addition, Chalmers area of advances in energy, as one of the supporters within this project, decides to continue support the mobility work to ABB Power Grids to further develop the research collaboration.
