Purpose and goal

The aim of the project Digital guidance for the visually impaired in public transport was to create a functional prototype for guidence without fixed physical installations in either vehicles or stops. In addition a sub task was to explore AR capability in today´s mobile phones and use this for real-time guidance at stops. The technical objectives have been achieved. Furthermore, it was important that the project´s need owners Synskadades riksförbund and Östgötatrafiken had an active role in the development. The intended users are satisfied with the prototype.

Expected results and effects

The project´s results are clear with a working prototype that performs digital guidence in public transport. Relevant technology has been explored and used to the extent that it has been functional in the created prototype. The gained knowledge (SoA) will be useful in new contexts. Furthermore, a ambition to strengthen the regional network and establish collaboration for further development and knowledge development in digital aids, which has happened - participating parties are involved in additional project and are actively seeking new joint research and innovation project.

Planned approach and implementation

The prototype development have been carried out in a small group of parties, with different roles and competencies. It enable funktional focus yet integration of work packages. Practical development has been carried out with close connection with needs owners, steering group and other developers. Functional developments have been carried out in several iterations with user groups, which has created efficiency in the work and a clear connection to the user needs. The active participation of the project´s need owners is a success factor.
