Purpose and goal

The Digital Cellulose Center (DCC) is a VINNOVA competence center with the vision to establish an internationally competitive research environment. The environment provides expertise and infrastructure for industry-driven, excellent R&D in the field of Digital Cellulose-based products, aiming at making cellulose-based products an integral part of a sustainable, digital society and contributing to growth of the Swedish industry. With DCC as an industry-academia hub, Sweden has a leading role in bringing research and industry together creating value for a sustainable society.

Expected results and effects

DCC brings together top researchers in cellulose and organic electronics to conduct cutting-edge research. The input from the society and industry has been vital and through several processes as fundamental and applied research as well as competence building, DCC creates value in terms of new excellent knowledge used in new industrial processes and products. This impact can be evident in new spin-out companies, industrial partners and off course a positive impact on the development of the sustainable society. After a successful 5 year evaluation, DCC is now entering its second phase, with Vinnova dnr 2022-03085.

Planned approach and implementation

The DCC includes the academic partners RISE, Linköping University (LiU), and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), together with a large group of companies representing areas such as electroactive materials, paper and pulp, packaging and conversion as well as electrical applications and energy storage. Research activities are carried out in five research areas: Design for a circular bioeconomy, Energy Storage and harvesting, Materials design on a fibre level, Materials design for electroactivity and other functionality, and Data and signal transmission.
