Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The Swedish Maritime Technology Forum, has together with the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland , the Swedish Maritime Administration , Chalmers University of Technology and Combitech developed a 3D chart , augmented reality functions for increased availability in the sensitive nature. The goal has been to enhance the visitor´s nature experience without increasing the burden on the environment. The functionality and visualization was developed with the aim of utilizing the sensor data of the applications; GPS, compass, gyro and camera

Results and expected effects

The result is a developed technology that shows integrated situational information on your mobile phone or tablet in the correct place in nature. The application is the first of its kind which presents and compiles high quality information from sea and land data, together with civic information. Availability increases with this technique and improves safety for all visitors to the national park. One of the project´s major goals has been to demonstrate the development potential and further opportunities for both the industry and the individual user in the future.

Approach and implementation

With the support of joint working meetings, research, laboratory work, field studies and tests, the project group has shown that it is possible to bring together expertise from academia, government and business, with relatively limited resources and time to maximum the innovative output in a new unique constellation. The total collaborative resources with access to data and technical expertise has made it possible for the project to become first in the world to integrate and develop visualized Seabed and GEOdata with augmented reality features in a mobile application.
