Status | Completed |
Purpose and goal
Neutron detector adapted to a MEDIPIX chip. An etched structure will be filled with neutron scintillating material and readout will be done with a pixellated photodetector. The concept has been demonstrated using a PSD detector and a detector structure for the Medipix chip is demonstrated.
Results and expected effects
A demonstration of a working detector is shown based on a scintillating film coupeled to an array of photosensitive detectors read by the Medipix chip. In next face of the Project a prototype will be demonstrated and used in the negotiations for ESS research funding and in the building of analysis instruments at ESS. Middec will also be involved in Horizon 2020 applications based on this concept.
Approach and implementation
Hollow structures have been manufactured by etching and also capillaries of glass in a matrix have been studied. Filling by melting, centrifuge spinner and pressing have bee studied. A pixellated photon detector has been designed and manufactured in clean room environment. As next face a prototype will be made with bonding to a Medipix chip for read out.
