Development of a Decision Support System for evaluation of Excess Water

Reference number
Coordinator RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB - Division Samhällsbyggnad
Funding from Vinnova SEK 295 000
Project duration November 2018 - August 2019
Status Completed
Venture Challenge-Driven Innovation – Stage 1 initiation

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project is to develop a simple yet powerful real-time decision support for extraneous water in the sewer network and design a commercial software with international sales potential. In addition, an aim will also be to work on securing and a good access to reliable measurement data. The project is working according to plan and is now moving on to step 2.

Expected results and effects

The project is well underway and has mapped the demand for better data and analysis and has had a close dialogue with both Water and sewer organizations as well as sensor and IoT companies. Prior to step two, it has become clear that the project should also focus on more sensor data from the sewer network should be available and used. A conclusion drawn is that the tool being developed should not be limited for use with extraneous water only since more conceivable applications within the sewer network could be developped. The product should then be able to expand modularly.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was carried out in collaboration between RISE, Gemit Solutions AB and Mälarenergi AB. An inventory of needs and conditions at Mälarenergi has helped to develop a requirements picture. Furthermore, a workshop has been held with about ten Water and sewer organizations, as well as sensor and IoT companies. Studies and contacts with other competing projects to find a unique focus on the project has been performed. Now the project has developed a functional description for the tool to be developped and specified work packages for further steps in the project.
