Purpose and goal

The purpose of our solution is to strengthen young people´s democratic competencies and participation. The goal is to design and digitize a teaching model for the high school, as well as test and evaluate. The model has resulted in 100 students working on practical democracy and influence work in the municipality. Based on pre- and post-measurement with participating students, teachers ´positive evaluation of the project, and decision-makers´ commitment to young people´s ideas, we consider that aim and objective are met.

Expected results and effects

A pre- and post-survey has been carried out by the students´ democratic competencies and participation. The questionnaire is based on students´ self assessment in the areas; Knowledge and Critical Understanding, Attitudes, Abilities and Skills, Influence and Participation. The results show that the students have been strengthened in all areas. Example: I know how the municipality is governed, + 67% I have confidence in Swedish politicians, + 28% I know how I can influence democratic decisions, + 56% I am active in an organization / association, + 50%

Planned approach and implementation

Analysis of the four parts of the pilot: - The reference group gave wise input on school-specific issues, synchronizing with the activities of the youth council, as well as ideas on concept and implementation. - The change logic and the evaluation framework provided clarity in what we wanted to achieve and how we measure the effect. - With the teaching material and the digital platform we took a first step in the development of a long-term sustainable hub for teaching about democracy and participation. - The implementation of the model went well, which is made clear in the power measurement.
