Important results from the project

The objective of this project was to gather relevant parties to create a common future vision for decentralized water and wastewater facilities as well as a plan to get there. Future scenarios, desired goals and project ideas for how to get there, were discussed in workshops. The objectives of the project were met.

Expected long term effects

Hopefully, the results obtained from this, as well as related future projects, will bring us closer to the longterm goal: that future decentralized water and wastewater facilities contribute to the protection of environment and health, resource efficiency, circular nutrient management and societal preparedness. This includes reviewing where the responsibility for the decentralized systems should be placed in order to simplify maintenance, knowledge transfer, and inspection.

Approach and implementation

Initially, the current situation was reviewed through interviews with Swedish parties and a short literature study. The results of the review were presented during the project´s first workshop. In total, three workshops, led by foresight experts, were held with representatives from around 20 effected parties. The focus of the workshops was trend analysis (WS 1), scenario analysis (WS 2), desired future and activities required to get there (WS 3). Lastly, the results were presented in a report.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
