Purpose and goal
The overall goal with this project is to provide students and researchers with data related to various corporate governance issues. For insatnce, compared to many other countries, ownershipdata in Sweden is managed by one registrar which monitor the ultimate ownership structure. Several scientifc papers have been published with data from the VIRSO (Visby Reserach in Stock Ownership) centre.
Expected results and effects
As mentioned, the VIRSO data enables detailed studies of stock ownership by investors in public listed companies. Specifically, the design enables examination of: a) domestic institutional investors, b) foreign investors and c) individual investors.
Planned approach and implementation
The VIRSO database enables students and researchers to obtain detailed data related to stock ownership in publicly listed firms. In addition, several specific variables have been designed: the Herfindahl-index, stock wonership by the largets shareholders as well as ownership mesured by capital and votes.
