Purpose and goal

D3D - is a planning project whose main purpose is to together with three important govermental authorities SFV, FFV and the National Archives, which all have an interest in managing 3D models in the long term , address the issues that need further efforts for efficient handling of 3D models. This will benefical forboth facility management (FM) and cultural heritage . The project has produced a basis for a future development that could help stakeholders with long-term preservation and access of 3D BIM over the current technology limits and system boundaries that currently prevails.

Results and expected effects

- IFC´s suitability as exchange format for 3D objects must be further investigated. - IFC´s suitability as a working format for 3D objects must be further investigated - Quality assurance of the use of linked data must be carried out - Adaptation to the National Archives guidelines. - Management of point cloud from planning to preservation needs to be studied further. - Examine the possibility of creating mobile applications based on IFC - Investigate other formats such as PDF / E and DXF as preservation format.

Approach and implementation

This work has been carried out in the form of workshops and videoconferences. Four video conferences and four workshops have been held, three in Stockholm (two in the National Archives and the National Property Board) and one in Copenhagen organized by DURAARK. LTU has had the role of project coordinator and specialist in preservation issues and the other project partners have contributed with their specific expertise in facility management (SFV and FFV) and archiving (RA).
