Important results from the project

During the winter season, the proportion of cycling decreases dramatically. At the same time, congestion on roads and in is increasing public transport, and the good health and environmental effects are absent. Accessibility for cyclists is deteriorating radically, while increasing the risk of accidents. By rewarding the actors who work to promote year-round cycling, the conditions for cycling can be improved and new exemplary methods spread. The project has led to new innovations, knowledge of existing methods and created commitment and curiosity about winter cycling.

Expected long term effects

Six competition entries were finalized within the framework of the competition. Given that the competition was designed with a high threshold (implementation rather than idea for innovation), it is a good number. More have hopefully caught the eye of the challenges, which will probably trigger intensified work in the future. Contest entries have been of different nature and with different types of senders. According to expectations, the media work has created a commitment to winter cycling. On social media, the reactions have been both encouraging and questioning.

Approach and implementation

The project had limited resources for marketing to potential competitors. The activities were well balanced and complemented each other well. The competition design may need to be reviewed regarding the timeframe for innovations and if the rewards are strong enough to encourage risk-taking. The jury method worked well.
