Reference number
Coordinator LUNDS UNIVERSITETS INNOVATIONSSYSTEM AKTIEBOLAG
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 850 200
Project duration May 2012 - January 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Most of the activities planned for technical- and commercial validation of the technology, and setting up a commercialization strategy have been performed to reach the set goals. Phosgene-free polymer materials have been made and characterized, low carbon footprint shown, PCT and provisional patent applications filed, a company founded, company contacts made and samples provided for testing. Pilot scale production is currently being solved.

Results and expected effects

Technology is patented. 2-3 more patents are in pipeline A company has been established with a business model of producing intermediates and polymer products, and licensing the technology. Techno-economic evaluation data is available. Data on product evaluations is available. Samples are made available to Bayer for evaluation. IKEA and Bayer have given letters of intent for further development of the technology for coating and foam products Other large industry players e.g. DOW, BASF, Evonik and Sabic, and some industry investors have shown interest in the technology.

Approach and implementation

The plan of work has been successfully implemented: Patent applications have been submitted for the protection of the technology. A company to commercialise the technology is in place and continuous efforts have been made to contact potential customers that has led to a highly positive response The technology has been validated at a 2 liter scale. The only problem faced in the project has been scale up due to a non-functioning reactor. This issue is currently being solved through an external scale-up partner.
