Constraint-based algorithms for 2D geometrical packing through Cloud computing

Reference number
Coordinator Tomologic AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 3 400 000
Project duration June 2011 - April 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Tomologic´s algorithms are now designed for multicore-system and the cloud is used as computational resource. Pilot customers use Tomologic´s technology in real production and pay according to Tomologic´s business model. Through this project has Tomologic proved that the business model Software as a Service is accepted by the manufacturing industry. The target to industrialize Tomologic´s technology is in a first step executed and the possibility to automate the technology is proved.

Results and expected effects

The research project Forska and Väx A aimed to implement Tomologic´s technology in algorithms controlled by constraints, designed for multicore-system and use possibilities with cloud computing. Our project has gone well and all activities have been executed, today Tomologic has a first version of those algorithms that Tomologic want to parallelize through multicore-system. Cooperations with SICS and machine manufacturers have gone well and today is there an early version, which is evaluated by pilot customers.

Approach and implementation

The project started with evaluation of existing frameworks for cloud computing, multicore and which parts of Tomologic´s system, which could be suitable for these technologies. Next step was to design the system architecture. We executed our research and development activities according to the architecture to adjust Tomologic´s technology for multicore-system and cloud computing. The project was ended with evaluation of the technology in real production by pilot customers, these pilot customers received a desired saving using Tomologic´s optimization system.
