Important results from the project

The objective of the project was to identify and describe national areas of strength favourable for the Swedish life science sector. The purpose is to clarify Sweden´s strengths to international stakeholders, in order to attract capital and competence, and to national investors and decision-makers to provide guidance for aimed investments and strategic development planning. The aim was to identify areas of strength with impact on life science, where Sweden stands out internationally, and to describe the underlying factors which affect the future realisation of each area.

Expected long term effects

The project resulted in the identification of eleven areas of strengths, each of which affect Swedish life science: - Ability to collaborate - Available competence - Innovation clusters - Innovation financing - Research infrastructures - Health data, national registers and biobanks - Preventive healthcare - Biotechnology development - Precision medicine - Biopharmaceuticals - Trademarks Underlying factors affecting each area have been assessed. The results can provide guidance for aimed investments and future strategic planning to promote Swedish life science development.

Approach and implementation

The project included qualitative data collection based on literature studies and interviews with national and international stakeholders with insight into the Swedish life science sector. Collected data was categorised into separate areas of strength, and underlying factors were assessed in SWOT analyses. The results were compiled and presented in a written report.
