Purpose and goal
In the 2 pilots Challenge Lab has been established and will be further developed to become a strategic resource for Chalmers, in bridging the dimensions of the knowledge triangle and driving transformative change for a sustainable society. Challenge Lab has attracted students as well as teachers and supervisors from different disciplines in working on solutions for a sustainable society, which in turn has been attracting external stakeholders to participate. The areas of advance have in this structure been a great advantage, where the cross-disciplinary also is established.
Results and expected effects
The Challenge Lab that has been initiated and developed to: 1. Strengthen the educational dimension in the knowledge triangle within the Chalmers Areas of Advance. 2. Strengthen Chalmers role and position as an arena for triple helix collaborations 3. Given the students the opportunity to develop unique skills in working across disciplines and from a challenge driven perspective. The student involvement can be seen as glue for deeper collaboration, here on a common ground on societal challenges.
Approach and implementation
Challenge Lab has been conceptual developed, 2 pilots have been conducted, to be the vehicle and demonstrator of how collaboration in the knowledge triangle can be developed further in the high complexity of the Chalmers system and external environment. Within this project Challenge Lab has been established in the environment of Science Parks. During the project around 100 students have been involved, about 15 master theses projects and 20 projects as student assignment in collaboration with multiple stakeholders has been conducted with the C-lab methodology.
