Project duration June 2015 - February 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to test the identified hypotheses around the project ´Game Studio´. The hypotheses we tested focused on the game mechanics in an educational environment, gender differences in coding apps for kids, language barriers, as well as teachers´ need for coding products in schools. We applied these insights to build the ´Game Studio´ prototype, which resulted in a fully developed, market ready app that launched in December 2015.

Expected results and effects

Through an agile testing process we were able to determine both the curriculum and game mechanics for Coda Game, and later develop a product that was tested with both children, parents and teachers. By working closely with schools and other educational organizations, we could establish an overall picture of how primary schools, both public and private, in Sweden when it comes to educational products within IT. With these insights in mind we have created new hypotheses to test in our five largest geographical markets (based on app downloads).

Planned approach and implementation

Throughout the project duration we have had a focus group with a secondary school class each week to test different functionalities of the app. We also conducted in-depth interviews with teachers and schools, as well as questionnaires with parents. Each week we iterated and built the new features in the app based on the collected data, and this rapid testing process gave us a finished product that we launched on the global market, with a marketing focus on Sweden.
