Clean up system for high viscous, polluted and toxic sludge in explosion risk areas: Phase 2

Reference number
Coordinator Faltech Aktiebolag
Funding from Vinnova SEK 200 000
Project duration December 2017 - November 2018
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Research was required to determine the function of the pump in classified explosion risk areas. After the tests and analyses were carried out, prototype, based on the current version, had been designed. That can meet the requirements in the directives and standards. A report will be presented to a test institute for evaluation. Complementary tests will take place. According to our opinion the prototype can be used for cleaning of sludge from the bottom of boats as well as other confined spaces.

Expected results and effects

The knowledge and contacts related to the project has extended dramatically. A new market in the is expected to become available to us within a near future where our equipment already has good references. English and Chinese companies have also shown great interest in cooperating with us with regard to prevention of environmental and health risks, where they see us as in a leading role. Our technical group has developed a prototype for testing the requirements. It will according to our opinion be used for cleaning of sludge from the bottom of boats and other confined spaces.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been carried out in accordance with safety directives. Both international companies and engineering specialists from several oil producing countries and countries storing oil were involved in the project. Risk factors such as hot gases, warm surfaces, mechanical sparks, possible ignition sources, conductivity of the pump house etc. have been analyzed and taken into consideration. A prototype is designed. Description for certification has been prepared both for modified current version and a new version.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
