Purpose and goal

The aim has been to - from an innovation systems perspective - explain how and why national and regional economies change and develop over time, and how and why such development differs between different types of economic activities. A sub-aim was to establish closer relations with policymakers and contribute to more efficient innovation policy. During this phase, CIRCLE has consolidated its position as one of Europe´s leading centres for innovation systems research and strenghtened its capacity for knowledge exchange with policy makers in Sweden and abroad.

Expected results and effects

- Impact on the research community: CIRCLE has produced over 400 scientific publications during this thre year period. - Societal and policy relevance: (i) policy advisory board with representatives from OECD, EU, Region Skåne, Swedish Government, VINNOVA, Tillväxtanalys and industry, (ii) debate articles in DN, SvD, DI and contributions to policy reports for e.g. Tillväxtanalys, Swedish Economic Forum Report. Regular contributions to policy seminars in Sweden (organized by CIRCLE or others) and abroad.

Planned approach and implementation

CIRCLE is a cross-disciplinary research centre at Lund University. The research is organized in five thematic platforms. All platforms are cross disciplinary and represented in CIRCLEs policy advisory board. Synergies between the platforms and sub-projects are guaranteed through regular seminars and working papers. A research retreat with all staff has been organized annually. At this event, results are discussed and milestones for the coming year has been established.
