Purpose and goal
The aim was develop a step 2 application with focus on factors that are critical for establishing a balanced so-called ´centrocalised´ organisational structure, where balance is achieved between a centralised and local organisation based on extant contingencies. The goal was that knowledge from such a project should lead to improvements of the industrialisation process in Swedish companies and thus to enhanced innovation capability. Due to unforseen coincidences at the involved actors, it was not possible to develop a full application.
Results and expected effects
The assumption was that a centrocalised´ organisation would exemplify an organisational innovation for how to organise industrialisation and hence lead to that the involved companies should enhance their innovation capability. The study revealed that how to organise industrialisation is a key problem in industry and that different organisational forms can be used. The relevance of various forms for different circumstance is still an area where industry needs more knowledge. Hence, the key finding is that the topic addressed is relevant and should be addressed in future research.
Approach and implementation
A literature review and empirical studies at the companies were carried out. The literature review indicated that the topic has been addressed in different scientific disciplines. The empirical studies showed that organisational forms have been used in industry, but the basis for selecting the form can be improved. Hence, there is room for enhanced knowledge where research in different scientific disciplines are merged and related to industrial needs of improvements.
