Reference number
Coordinator Swedish Woodfibre Boards AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration June 2015 - June 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Our main goal was to establish a project that developed an environmentally friendly insulation panel based on TMP pulp, and that this product could be commercialized and licensed to a major manufacturer based patent rights. Objective: To develop a product concept based on door customers´ requirements. Secure patent rights for this board production concept. A documented market analysis describing customers and competitors. All our obectives where fulfilled, a patented concept, a manufacturer and a large customer.

Expected results and effects

A concept / recipes for the production of insulation panels of TMP pulp where properties are controlled by sorting and refining of various fiber sizes. A submitted patent applicaton for the concept. An additional project to build a test facility with a supplier and a customer. Contract with a supplier and a customers for the production of fiber board panels. A market analysis that describes the doors and competitors, including price levels and current volumes. Developed expertise on board manufacturing, TMP cellulose and market.

Planned approach and implementation

Activities: Customer requirements, market analysis, development of recipes / concept, testing of characteristics, production of test panel boards (iterative), Product and Capex estimates, Preparation of a patent application. All this led to a decision to continue development and estalish a new project for a test facility with the customer and supplier. The process was iteratively, testsing based development of algorithms for calculating properties based fiber fraction and density. The patent application was based on the testing and the determined concept.
