Purpose and goal

The purpose of this project is to offer patients the best treatment and that Sweden will be a leading player in the field of cell therapy. By creating business opportunities and innovations in collaboration with companies and entrepreneurs, the problems that prevent the development of cell therapy into a significant treatment can be overcome. New cell therapies, methods and tools can be tested and anchored in the clinical environment, with the aim of accelerating the implementation of cell therapy in clinical practice.

Expected results and effects

Large-scale manufacturing processes, treatment of patients with T-cell therapy in clinical trials, full logistics for patient and cell production, large-scale production of GMP LN-521, GMP protocol for the derivation of embryonic stem cells, assay method for evaluating dendritic cells for clinical use, identification of ligands on NK cells associated with tumor stroma in multiple myeloma, legal and economic conditions for inclusion of foreign patients in clinical trials, implemented clinical organization for the development of cell therapies.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been coordinated from Karolinska University Hospital, Innovationsplatsen. The project has been executed in a number of work packages with dedicated WP project leaders and project groups. A steering group consisting of the WP leaders and a number of key stakeholders within Karolinska has reviewed the progress of the WPs and discussed and worked with project overarching questions. The steering committee has been chaired by Karolinska, and the coordinator has reported to VINNOVA.
