Purpose and goal
We will develope a cost effective, non-invasive capillary home sampling kit for therapeutic drug monitoring. Capillary sampling will make it possible for the regular patient to provide dose monitoring samples without leaving their home, or work, environment. Through our novel implementation of techniques the patient will prepare the blood for analyses and provide a stable snap shot of the components at a specific time point.
Expected results and effects
A stable and reliable solution for capillary home sampling will benefit patients in a multitude of ways. Everybody gets the same opportunity for great care independent of geography, opening hours, mobility and health status. Because of the small volume, analyses that demands repeated sampling will not affect the total blood volume, a concern in eg very young or very sick patients. The sample can be shipped with regular mail and analysed in any lab with the proper equipment.
Planned approach and implementation
Our proof of concept is a kit designed for measuring Tamoxifen and its active metabolite Z-endoxifen. Tamoxifen is an estrogen inhibitor that is commonly used to prevent breast cancer relapse. The concept consists of a method for analyses, a kit designed for optimal sampling, a logistic solution and a strategy for upscaling. Within the timeframe of the project regulatory processes will be initiated and everything set in place to begin the clinical evaluation phase.
