Important results from the project
The purpose has been to identify complex strategic issues rather than exploring a predefined issue, the process has been characterized by a broad challenge-driven and exploratory approach. Based on this process, five overarching problem areas were identified that have iteratively developed into a simplified strategic framework in dialogue with various stakeholders both within and outside the project. These areas have been formulated in an easy-to-read handbook and final report.
Expected long term effects
The project has fulfilled its objectives with one exception. The original project application also stated that a sub-study in the project would be a case study on Göteborgs Stad. This was specifically to support an intended pilot project within Robotaxi that would be initiated at the same time as this project. As the second proposed project for various reasons did not materialize, the purpose of the intended case study also fell, as there were no resources to carry out a more generic analysis without a clear recipient. For these reasons, the case study was not carried out.
Approach and implementation
Collaboration and dialogue has taken place with relevant actors both nationally and internationally where valuable insights have been gathered during the project through interviews and meetings with a wide range of actors such as K2, RISE, Uber, and individuals with experience from Google / Waymo and the San Francisco Municipal Transport Agency (SFMTA) that are responsible for permits for Robot Taxi Operators. The project period has also enabled a longer visit to California/Silicon Valley during the autumn of 2021.
