Important results from the project
The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of a biocatalyst for synthesis of enantiomerically pure phosphate esters, which are valuable pharmaceutical compounds (e.g. antiviral drugs). We have identified enzymes suitable for the desired reaction. We have also shown that our proprietary technology for enzyme reuse is functional in large-scale processes. Further, the market has been investigated and relevant customers identified.
Expected long term effects
Based on market analyses and a technological evaluation, we conclude that the development of an efficient biocatalyst system for synthesis of chiral phosphate esters is feasible. We can now with a high degree of certainty estimate the risks involved in the development of such specific catalyst systems, and determine to what degree this should be done before a collaboration with a costumer is established.
Approach and implementation
* Market inventory: A customer base is verified and a business model is developed. * Suitability and potential for large-scale production: No hindrances were identified. * Patenting: International patent has been filed for protection of the core technology.
