BiMaC Innovation, Steg 3

Reference number
Coordinator KUNGLIGA TEKNISKA HÖGSKOLAN - BiMaC Innovation
Funding from Vinnova SEK 21 000 000
Project duration January 2013 - January 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

BiMaC Innovation contributes to breakthroughs in the forest-based industry, based on the development of the scientific knowledge of the properties of bio-based materials from the Swedish forest. This leads to the development of new bio-based materials, and the work includes the bridging of gaps in the innovation chain to support industrial implementation and commercialization. The results are delivered at a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) that allows commercialization in the context of industrial companies internal development.

Results and expected effects

BiMaC Innovation has delivered expertise and technology that is used in industrial production, especially in the context of industrial process and product development. Specifically new characterization methods and material models have had a major impact. In addition, a set of new materials concepts has been developed. These are currently assessed with respect to industrial implementation. Finally, the number of scientific publications has increased during stage 3, with several articles published in highly ranked scientific journals.

Approach and implementation

During the third stage, BiMaC Innovation has developed a new collaboration concept called Implementation Projects where selected research results and ideas are refined. These projects are intended to move the scientific results to technologies that can be used for commercialization through the industry´s process and product development. The evolution of the scientific publication is closely associated with the existence and progress within the Wallenberg Wood Science Center, that contribute to the scientific foundation of BiMaC Innovation.
