Important results from the project
The goals of the project were to: - develop capabilities in Big Data infrastructure and analytics for business intelligence and biomedicine and health - develop capability and competence to make a professional transition from an academic milieu to a a position between academia and industry. - to use the mobility period to incubate a startup company based on advanced research and directed to high impact stakeholders in industry.
Expected long term effects
The goals of the project have been successfully attained: - expertise has been built up using complementary strengths from Chalmers and Persistent, translated into a Big Data engineers group at Chalmers and recruitment to a startup - Professional development has resulted in a transition from a purely academic milieu at Chalmers to a position between academia and industry which is expected to develop more fully over the next two years. - A startup, Machine Intelligence Sweden AB has been incubated and is already engaged in projects with leading industry stakeholders.
Approach and implementation
The project was structured as an outgoing mobility programme from a pure academic milieu at Chalmers to a leading international ICT company Persistent Systems. The project was implemented via a series of visits to Persistent involving interaction with the leadership at Persistent including the CEO, CTO and several VPs, in particular the VP of research at Persistent Labs. The final achievement has been an international consortium for Big Data in Biomedicine announced at a recent EMBO symposium in New Delhi (Feb. 26, 2018): http://meetings.embo.org/event/18-data-biomedicine
