Automation in production of small aircrafts; from manual to semi-automatic processes

Reference number
Coordinator RISE SICOMP AB - RISE SICOMP AB, Linköping
Funding from Vinnova SEK 125 000
Project duration December 2018 - August 2019
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The goals of the project were met, and the outcome was a confidential report consisting of mapping of the process flow, identified challenges within the production and suggested improvements. Included was also a suggestion on how and where to begin the automation journey and what´s important to consider.

Expected results and effects

Within the pre-study, the current production flow and processes were mapped at Blackwings factory in Eslöv. Identification of challenges and opportunities for improvement of the production were carried out, which took the lead in a company visit. In addition, operations and activities that could benefit from possible automation were investigated. The hope is that this will form the basis for a future project.

Planned approach and implementation

The project started with a kick-off meeting to formulate an action plan on how to carry out the pre-study. During the spring, a visit and a factory tour at Blackwing’s facilities was made. During the factory tour, the production and process flow of the aircraft was followed and mapped. Within each process and operation, the representatives from RISE had the opportunity to talk to the production personnel and ask questions, making it easier to identify possible challenges and possibilities within the production. After the visit, the impressions were summarized and resulted in a report.
