Automatic Reasoning and Knowledge Integration in Intelligent Systems (ARKTIS)

Reference number
Coordinator TOTALFÖRSVARETS FORSKNINGSINSTITUT, FOI - Totalförsvarets Forskningsinstitut
Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 400 000
Project duration December 2011 - January 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

This project has explored how techniques for knowledge processing used in robotics applications can be adapted to, and integrated in, civil/military decision support systems. Techniques and methods that have been treated in the project include Bayesian statistics, various data mining methods and Deep learning. Several applications within the field of decision support have been identified.

Results and expected effects

The support from VINNOVA has made it possible for the project leader to strengthen her academic qualifications as well as her leadership skills. It is likely that the long term positive effects for the project leader will be significant. As the project leader´s employer, FOI has also benefitted from the ARKTIS project. The project leaders has been able to apply her new skills in projects at FOI and, in addition, results from thesis projects initiated by the project leader at CAS/CVAP have produced direct input to ongoing projects at FOI.

Approach and implementation

For the duration of the ARKTIS project, the project leader has shared her time between FOI and the Centre for Autonomous Systems (CAS) at KTH. At FOI, the project leader has been active both as researcher and as project manager, working mainly within the fields of information processing and data fusion. At KTH, the project leader has continued her research within the above mentioned areas, but she has had the liberty to choose research topic freely. As a result the project leader has broadened her area of expertise.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
