Important results from the project
ASK II has been a multifaceted project that: - presented a basis for the recruitment needs that the Swedish metal industry faces - produced a developed survey of activities for enhancing attractivity and initiated a model for accessibility and continuous updating - based on conducted studies produced a guide for attractivity and strategic competence supply, generalizable for the entire metal industry - based on studies of how companies work to take care of new staff presented a demonstrator for work with strategic mentorship
Expected long term effects
The various parts of ASK II are to an extent independent, but the overall result enables the dissemination of a more positive and certainly updated image of the metal industry. External stakeholders (guidance counsellors, etc.) will be able to utilize the results in their work, while those within the industry will be able to find models for better matching and competence supply. The project leaves both concrete tips via a ‘Guide for attractiveness and strategic competence supply’ as well as examples of activities for recruitment and a strengthened interest in the industry.
Approach and implementation
A large number of studies; questionnaires, focus group interviews, interviews have formed a basis for large parts of the project. The studies have been carried out in the various work packages with students, local campuses, company managements, study and career counselors, students in primary and secondary school and students in polytechnics and various technical preporatory schools. Based on these interviews, various methods have been tested at the same time as a focus has been on examining how the image of the metal industry and its supply of skills matches between interviewees.
