Purpose and goal

The overall purpose of Arrowhead was to create a framework for service oriented communication within Internet of Things based automation technologies. The specific goal for NODA in Arrowhead was to develop a solution to integrate digitalisation based optimisation solutions for district heating systems with traditional automation technology, and to perform a series of demonstrations of this technology in operational industrial settings.

Expected results and effects

NODA has achieved their goals in the Arrowhead project by using an existing hardware platform provided by Abelko. Abelko is a project partner in Arrowhead, and NODA has cooperated with them throughout the project to further develop the system. NODA has developed a software-based solution to connect between existing and new district heating substations and the overlying system for operational optimisation in district heating networks from a production and distribution perspective.

Planned approach and implementation

NODA has worked in close cooperation with Abelko throughout the project. The software development has been managed by NODA alone, but the connection to the hardware has been facilitated by the cooperation with Abelko. Three different demonstrations have been performed during the project. These have verified increasingly complex levels of functionality in the system. In parallel with the technical development, NODA has also worked on market preparatory activities relating to the system developed within the Arrowhead project.
